Quick answer
- Hexis, Fuelin and Mavr all set daily nutrition from your training, but each fits a different athlete.
- Hexis (€24.99 a month or €129.99 a year) is best if you want carb periodization with colour-coded meals and detailed food logging.
- Fuelin ($29 a month or $139 a year, or $99 a month with a human coach) is best if you want a real nutrition coach or your coach plans in TriDot, Final Surge or similar tools.
- Mavr (free trial with full access, then Mavr Pro) is best if you want targets that follow your training calendar, pre-, during- and post-workout timing, race-day plans, Hyrox support and an AI coach you can ask, on iPhone.

5 key facts
- Hexis uses Carb Codes: each meal gets a colour based on the training you just did and the training coming next.
- Fuelin is the only one of the three with a human coach option (Copilot, $99 a month or $399 a year).
- Mavr connects to Runna, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Intervals.icu and Apple Health, and supports Hyrox as a sport.
- Hexis and Fuelin are on iPhone and Android. Mavr is iPhone only.
- All three cost less than $15 a month on a yearly plan, except Fuelin Copilot.
Hexis, Fuelin and Mavr are three of the main apps that change what you eat based on your training. All three know that a rest day and a 3-hour ride need different food. Where they differ is how they tell you what to eat, how much logging they ask for, whether a person can help you, which apps they connect to, and what they cost.
Short answer: pick Hexis for carb periodization and detailed food logging, Fuelin if you want a human nutrition coach or use a coaching platform like TriDot, and Mavr if you want daily targets and race plans that follow your training calendar with less logging. Mavr publishes this article, so we point out where Hexis and Fuelin are better. Prices checked October 2026.

How each app decides what you eat
Hexis is built around Carb Codes. Each meal gets a colour: green for high carb before or after hard or long sessions, amber for moderate carb on steady days, and red for low carb on easy or rest days. Hexis says the codes look across a 72-hour window, so tomorrow’s session can change tonight’s dinner. The idea comes from the “fuel for the work required” approach in sports science, which matches carbs to the work of each day.
Fuelin sets daily macro and calorie targets from your training, your body and your goals, then suggests meals and recipes to hit them. Its Smart Meals and more than 100 recipes are timed to your training week. It also gives fuel and fluid guidance for workouts and tracks things like weight and sweat rate over time.
Mavr reads your training calendar and sets carbs, protein, calories and hydration for each day and each session. A long run and an easy run get different targets, and a rest day scales back. It gives timed pre-, during- and post-workout fueling, and fluid and sodium guidance that scales with heat, intensity and session length. Mavr’s engine is built on published research from Jeukendrup, Burke and the ISSN, and it models glycogen through the day.

Mavr Pro starts from $5.99 a week, or $79.99 a year (about $1.54 a week), and the app shows your price before you pay. Integrations
- Hexis: Garmin, WHOOP, TrainingPeaks, Intervals.icu and Apple Health.
- Fuelin: Strava, TrainingPeaks, V.O2, Final Surge, HumanGO, TriDot, RunDot and Garmin, plus MyFitnessPal and LoseIt for food.
- Mavr: Runna, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Intervals.icu and Apple Health, which brings in Garmin, Coros, WHOOP and Oura data.
If your coach builds your plan in TriDot, Final Surge, HumanGO or RunDot, Fuelin is the easy choice. If you follow a Runna plan, Mavr is the only one of the three that lists Runna. If you train with WHOOP and Intervals.icu, Hexis and Mavr both cover you.
Food logging and daily effort
Hexis has the most complete logging of the three. You can search a database of over a million foods or scan a barcode, and Live Energy shows your fuel status as you log. That is great if you like data and will log every meal. It is a lot of work if you will not.
Fuelin offers AI food logging and can bring in food you already track in MyFitnessPal or LoseIt. Mavr lets you log a meal by taking a photo or by speaking, and you can ask Kai, the AI nutrition coach, questions like what to eat before a long run or how to hit today’s carb target. Mavr Pro adds AI Food Analysis, Voice Meal Logging and AI meal ideas that change with your training calendar every day.
Race day
Hexis includes race and competition fueling in the app, and has a free race-day calculator on its website that gives hourly carbs (with separate bike and run rates for triathlon), fluid, sodium, food ideas and a packing list. Fuelin builds fueling for training and racing into your daily plan. Mavr spots race days on your calendar and builds a carb-load, race-morning meal timing and in-race carb and sodium targets. Mavr also has free race calculators on its website for the marathon, half marathon, ultra and Hyrox.

Hexis says it works with elite organisations such as EF Pro Cycling and Leeds United. Fuelin says its programme was built by nutrition coach Scott Tindal, sports dietitian Dr. Alan McCubbin and registered dietitian Megan Foley. Fuelin also has far more App Store ratings than Mavr (about 1,300 against 8 in the US store). Those are real points in favour of Hexis and Fuelin.

Verdict
There is no single winner. Hexis is the deepest tool for athletes who want to plan and log carbs meal by meal. Fuelin is the only one that can put a human coach in your pocket, and it links to more coaching platforms. Mavr is the simplest way to let your training calendar set your daily fuel, workout timing and race plan, and to ask an AI coach when you are unsure. If you are on iPhone, try Mavr’s free trial for one normal training week and see whether you follow the advice. That matters more than the length of any feature list.
